The Benefits of Studying English Online
By Rachel Rowland ( ABC School’s Academic Coordinator )
This year has been a difficult one for many people. The Coronavirus has changed the way that companies do business, and one major change has been the need to communicate online rather than face to face.
Many students have found that they cannot attend their English classes, due to the closure of language schools. However, this does not mean that you have to miss out on your education. Online learning has become very popular in recent months, and there are many advantages to continuing your studies in this way.
Due to the current climate, communicating online is essential, so let us look at some of the benefits that learning English online could bring.
Learning from the comfort of your own home means that you can choose a learning environment that works best for you. You can set up an inspirational study environment, with a comfortable chair and large desk in your home. In addition, you will not have to worry about social distancing, as there will be no other people around you.
No travel required
In addition to creating a comfortable learning environment, another bonus is that you will not have to take public transport to get to class, meaning you won’t have to spend the extra money on travel costs! In addition, you will not have to worry about social distancing or wearing a face mask, which is now compulsory on public transport in the U.K. The real advantage though, is that you can wake up later because you will not have to spend any time travelling to your school!
Greater ability to concentrate
Shy students tend to benefit from learning online, as they are more likely to contribute towards class discussions than they would in a face to face classroom situation. In addition, due to a lack of extra distractions, students would probably find that they are better able to concentrate. Most people find that they are more focused on learning when studying online.
Online courses look good on your C.V
Having an online course on your C.V shows future employers that you are self-motivated and committed to learning. During these uncertain times, some people will decide to stay at home and wait until ‘normal’ life resumes, abandoning their education in the process. You do not have to be that person! You can keep your mind active, gain new skills and be ahead of the game if you study English online.
Improve your technical skills
Even basic online platforms require you to develop computer skills. You will learn and utilise skills, such as creating and sharing documents, which are transferable across many professions. If you sign up to one of our 4 week courses, you will have access to our student practice area ( CSPA ) which is a very useful resource available to students outside of lessons. More details will be given upon enrolment. We also offer trial lessons for our online classes, so that you can see if online learning is really your cup of tea before signing up.
