Student of the month is Fatma!

ABC School of English - Our student of the month for October is...

As always, ABC School of English seeks the Student of the month! In this case, this student is Fatma, and she is studying English with the Callan Method!

We have interviewed Fatma about her experience in London and at ABC School of English. We have learnt her opinion about the school and the city and we have got to know her better.

Thank you for taking the time to do the interview!

Could you please tell me something about yourself: studies, job, hobbies, and dreams?

First of all, I would like to thank you for giving me the chance to express myself and it is a great honor to be part of your school. My name is Fatma Özdemir, I am a Marmara University Law School graduate as well as a human rights lawyer in Istanbul, Turkey. I have been engaged in human rights work. I pursued my academical studies integrated with the advocacy work as a political Kurdish activist, lawyer and a member of civil society organisation.

Aside from these, I have a strong passion for taking photo and traveling. I’ve been involved in yoga. I find doing yoga as therapeutic for me; it is a release where I can forget everything and enjoy myself. I also enjoy reading a range of books, from political to non-fiction. My main passion, however, is traveling. I believe it is so important to see the way other cultures live, and to take lessons from those around the world, and find connections with different people.

Why did you decide to come to London? How do you find life in London?

I came to London to study on my Master program and of course to improve my English language skills. From museums to art galleries, verdant parks to art house exhibitions, London is one of the few cities in the world where you can see a masterpiece for absolutely nothing at all. It is one of the most multicultural cities on the planet. I have many foreign friends. I learn new things such as their culture, food, and history of their country from them.

Why did you choose ABC School? What’s your opinion of the Callan Method course?

While googling about the Callan Method, I found the ABC School and visited the school. There was a very convincing conversation with me and after a while I started the course. We are very satisfied with our teachers; they are absolutely perfect. I have been amazed by their energy and efforts. The Callan Method is a fast, fun, and easy way of learning English that focuses on improving students' listening and speaking skills. You are starting to understand the native speaker in a short time. Also, your range of vocabulary increases amazingly. So, it's a great learning method.

What are your plans for the future?

I am going to start studying at the University of Essex LLM in International Humanitarian Law next year. It will be a very exciting experience for me. After completing my master’s program, I would like to work with the international human rights organizations such as the Law Society, Amnesty International.
