Student of the month: Iryna!

September is ending and we want to show you our student of the month! Iryna!

We have interviewed our lovely student about her experience in London and at ABC School of English. We have learnt her opinion about the school and the city and we have got to know her better.

Could you please tell me something about yourself: studies, job, hobbies, and dreams?

Hi, my name is Iryna and I am originally from Ukraine. I studied clothing design at University in my home country. Unfortunately, I was not able to work with received speciality, so I decided that I wanted to work in beauty industry to help people become more beautiful, specifically women, in a bit different way. After one year course I started to work as a manicurist in Minsk, Belarus. I really enjoyed to meet new people every day, listen their life stories and of course help them to look better.

When I was a teenager I visited drawing school and since then I always wanted to draw. I did nail designs, but I wanted to do illustrations, as well. Since I moved to London I have much more time to my hobby. Now I am learning illustration with the help of iPad and I really love it.

My dreams depend on the time but generally I am happy and just want to do what I like and make this planet happier.

Why did you decide to come to London?

In Minsk I met the love of life and we decided to try to live in London. It is a good opportunity to learn another language, culture and lifestyle.

How do you find life in London?

Life in London differs from the life I had in Minsk. Generally, it is difficult to move to new place and even more stressful to a different country with another language. I have accepted this challenge and I know that I improve step by step and become stronger with every small win. There are still lots of things to absorb and I believe I would have a chance once the pandemic is over.

Why did you choose ABC school?

First, when I was looking for an English course, I really liked their straightforward and user-friendly website. I prefer minimalism and direct messages, rather than complicated and advanced systems.

Secondly, I liked their transparent price policy where you can easily calculate and plan the budget.

Finally, I find the staff very friendly, supportive and sensitive to all my requests.

What’s your opinion of the Callan Method course?

I learned English all my life, but the progress was very weak, as it was classical approach with boring grammar and vocabulary drill. Callan Method course is absolutely different approach. I like the way when knowledge comes naturally with nearly no efforts. I would compare it to how children learn the language having no any previous language in their head and they progress really fast. I feel that I improve every single month and now understand much more on what is going on in classes.

What are your plans for the future?

Well, I prefer not to think too far from now. Now I am happy, so why would I wish more? In general, I would like to improve my skills and feel a bit more settled in life. I guess it would be a bit nicer living in some warm country under the palm trees next to the ocean. Bora-Bora my mind whispers me…
